Artificial Intelligence is a new frontier, the capabilities and applications of this technology are too numerous to count, and a lot of them can be terrifying. However, the technology is not inherently bad. The goal of any new technology is to make life easier for humans, and AI has the capability to do that.
AI can perform tasks that would take one human hours, in a matter of seconds. This would allow people to spend time performing more complex tasks that require thought that is un-automatable. For example, one common application for ChatGPT is putting a piece of writing into the system and asking it to fix any spelling or grammatical errors. AI can also be used as an extra employee for small companies with low budgets. ChatGPT can create entire social media content calendars or website content for users that may not have the skills, time, or funding to do it themselves.
Other AI platforms that focus on image generation, such as CoPilot, allow users to feed descriptive prompts to AIs in order to create images of varying genres. Image focused AIs can allow for people with less artistic talent to express their thoughts and ideas in a way they never could. The prompting of the AI can become an art in of itself because users are required to learn the correct phrasing to get the results they want. For example, the following images were used with the CoPilot AI, but only through my wording of the prompts.
The issue arises when it comes to determining who owns the intellectual property of the content created using AI. Is the person prompting the AI responsible for the results, the person that programmed the AI, the creator of the original content used to train the AI, or the AI machine itself. These are all questions that are currently being worked out as they arrive in the court systems. So, while using AI for creative purposes can be beneficial, be careful when it comes to copyright because the laws surrounding AI and IP are still being written.
